He Puts the 'Pal' in Principal

We certainly had no reason to be stressed out or worried about our meeting with the principal this morning. He was delightful. He truly was, and the meeting was quite productive.

He was very interested in our family's food intolerance problems and asked many questions. It was great to find someone so open-minded about it. Of course, we didn't blame the food issues for all of Bo's behavior. Not at all. But we did say that it was a trigger and we hoped to help the situation by totally cutting out MSG from his diet so he would arrive at school with a fighting chance to make it through the day without incident. The rest will be up to Bo -- and I think he can do it.

In other news, a big thank you to many of you who have donated money to Mazy or Bo for their Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser for the American Heart Association! Mazy has raised $100 and Bo has raised $85! Both boys donated some of their Christmas money to kick off their efforts. They're really getting into it. The school set a $500 fundraising goal. As of today, they've already raised $1,540 in online donations alone! So many kids are participating and raising money that they ran out of the prizes they can earn -- various rubber duck keychains that they can attach to their Heart Hero lanyard. But don't worry, more ducks are on the way!

The school is also doing a great job of teaching them about heart health. Heart disease is the no. 1 killer of adults in Polk County so as part of the fundraising campaign, the students learn new exercises, healthy snacks and other heart-healthy habits to practice and share with their families. Bo informed tonight that popcorn "in one of those popper things" is good for your heart, as are pretzels dipped in mustard and skim milk "that's milk with less fat in it." It's fun to see him get into the learning!

Bbrrr, it is cold again. It warmed up a bit today, maybe in the teens. Tomorrow I think it will be 30 degrees! That's awesome! I might walk to the spice shop in the East Village with temps that warm.

Other than that, we're just getting through the week and looking forward to a Super Bowl party at my Aunt Sherie's house on Sunday. We haven't decided what appetizer we will take yet, but we'll find something good. Shawn also bought some party favors at Target today -- he is so proud of them.

And that's about it. Hope you all are having a great week.
