Housework, Yardwork and a Trip to the Art Center

It's been a pretty productive weekend. We cleaned house and did laundry yesterday and then attended a graduation party for Shawn's sister Denise in the evening. We beat the thunderstorm home, where cousin Jenny was babysitting the boys. We brought back some of the best chocolate layer cake you've ever tasted and sent Jenny on her way before the storm really hit.

Today we all did yardwork this morning -- pulling weeds and more weeds and putting down the two bags of mulch leftover from last year. We have a LOT of work to do, but we'll get it done this week so we can finally get the back area mulched and get the new swingset built for the boys!

After lunch today, Mazy and I went on our monthly museum trip. May's choice: The Des Moines Art Center. Mazy drew five works of art: a couple sculptures and a couple paintings. The docents were a little calmer this time with him, still eagle eyeing his every move, but not quite so uptight. We picked up a brochure and I think I'll enroll him in a summer art class if they work with his school schedule.

After that, we called my friend Kim and met her at Smokey Row for smoothies and then a quick tour of her new apartment in the Sherman Hill neighborhood.

And now we're back home and relaxing. Bo's still napping and Shawn has offered to get groceries for the week. All in all, a great ending to 9 excellent days out of the office and with the boys!
