Happy Memorial Day!

10:30 a.m. -- ready to tackle more yardwork before the 90 degree temps arrive! Already sprayed some weed killer in the worst areas and will now start pulling weeds.

Yesterday recap:
  • Theron/Hudson/Libby's birthday parties at the farm! Rain moved our plans from the park to mom and dad's farm. Which was OK, because their new addition is finished!! It looks awesome!! Really, really awesome. I can still hardly believe it went up so fast. Mom already had it decorated. Plush new berber carpet everywhere. New wood trim in the downstairs. New windows in the kitchen and dining room. The fireplace is working. The new built-in flatscreen TV with surround sound was working. It looks fabulous. And what a difference an addition can make for room!! We didn't know what to do with ourselves!
  • After the birthday festivities, sis Heidi and I took the older kids -- Mazy, Theron and Kael -- to Morrisburg Cemetery to leave flowers on Grandma Betty's grave and all our other relatives. Unfortunately, the kids were so enthusiastic about decorating Grandma Betty's that we used all our bouquets there! But that's OK. I know Great Uncle Gerald and Great Aunt Erma, and Great Grandpa Alva and all the other relatives were OK with that. Next year we'll be sure to bring lots more flowers!
  • As I was collecting irises and hosta leaves and other flowers for our bouquets, the kids all asked me what I was doing. When they found out, they totally got into it and soon my bouquets were overflowing with the flowers they'd picked -- Grandma Betty would have loved all the dandelions and tree leaves that ended up in her mason jar bouquets!
  • We spent over an hour at the cemetery, fixing up Grandma's area, showing the kids all our other relatives and then just letting them roam around looking at gravestones and asking questions. It was a great experience for all of us. We had lots of frank discussions about death and dying and heaven and praying and lots of other grownup talks that didn't seem nearly so scary to talk about in the peaceful confines of Morrisburg. I love honoring the traditions of Memorial Day and passing them on to my children and nieces and nephews.
Well, that yard isn't going to weed itself. Whatever your plans today, have a great time! Love you all!
