Oh for Crying Out Loud, Iowa!

Come on fellow Iowans — what the hell?? We kicked out three supreme court judges because they believe gay people are human beings who have the same rights as the rest of us? Really? Really?

This pisses me off more than anything else about last night's elections, and believe me, for those who think like I do, it was a bad night...

I was so proud of Iowa in 2009 when we granted gays and lesbians the freedom to marry. We, above just about everyone in the nation, showed how smart and compassionate we were when it came to equal rights for all Iowans, regardless of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, etc. We were cool! But we were more than that, we were an example of what it meant to be humane and good citizens of this planet. I thought, "hey Iowa, we are awesome! We live and let live. We may not have much diversity, but we take care of those we do have. We don't get caught up in religion and politics. We make smart decisions. We rock!"

Well we don't rock anymore. Shame on anyone who voted to fire three hardworking, fair, professional people for doing their jobs.

The one happy result in last night's election was that Iowa voted for the Environmental Trust Fund, which doesn't amount to much now, but is a clear sign that Iowans are getting prepared to take on some of the huge environmental concerns in this state and improve them so our children aren't left holding the bag.

And in Guthrie County, well, the reign of Supervisor Kevin Wirt has ended. It was a good run, Dad. We're proud of you. And if the people of Panora and Lake Panorama think someone else can serve them better, well, I wish them luck. You did it for 8 years and many people appreciated that very much. And I think it's worth mentioning that you GAVE BACK PART OF YOUR SALARY this year to help out with the rise in insurance rates for county employees. Please show me any other candidate, anywhere in this country, who would do that for his constituents. Oh well, politics is a rough life. Take a few years off. Then we'll have you run against that obnoxious Steve King... :)
