Writers Workshop and Literacy Centers... Kindergarten has changed!

When I was in kindergarten, I remember finger paints, paste, coloring pages, recess, and lukewarm cartons of milk at snack time.

I just attended the first brown bag lunch for parents at Mazy's school. His teachers gave a 50 minute PowerPoint presentation about how the classroom runs. It was an eye opener, to say the least!

They gave us a minute-by-minute schedule of their daily classroom activities -- it was impressive and so different than my experience. Writers workshop, literacy centers, presentation time, etc. It's exciting to see how this new generation is being taught, and to see how it will change the way they live and interact in the world. Neat stuff.

We took the boys for haircuts after work/school/daycare last night. First we went out for Mexican -- thinking it is best to cut their hair when they have full stomachs. And it was a good plan. There was no wait and both of them were as good as you could ask. We had them cut Bo's hair very short -- boy, does he look cute. He looked cute when he was shaggy, but now... although somehow he looks even ornerier than before!

In the last 24 hours we've made quite a few Labor Day weekend plans. Mom is taking Bo home with her Friday night. The last couple weeks have been tough on him -- he's pretty much under martial law at daycare and home so a night to himself with grandma on the farm will be a great change. Fortunately, he's been behaving really well for us all week. Not so much at daycare though...

Anyway, while Bo is there mazy, Shawn and I are going to a movie at the theater! Wooohoo! That is a totally rare occurrence in our house. We're all looking forward to it.

Saturday night the whole fam is going to the Iowa Cubs game. Mom has skybox tickets -- which is seriously the only way to watch a ball game. :) Sunday we'll hang at home. Monday I'm taking the boys to Panora. We need to deliver niece Irelyn's birthday present, play with her new baby sister Imersyn, take the boys to the Guthrie County Fair and then relax on the farm all afternoon.

Well, I just finished my lunch and should probably start working again. Talk to you all later!
