Garth, Jay and School Conferences

Well, I don't watch many late-night talk shows so I didn't realize tonight was Jay Leno's last show, again, apparently. :) I missed the last time he retired, too. Anyway, I saw something on Facebook and they said that Garth Brooks was performing! Well, much to Shawn's dismay, I insisted that we watch the entire show so that I could watch Garth. Ahhh, Garth, as good as ever.

So tonight was a whirlwind. We had school conferences for the boys at 4:45 and 5:30. We sent Violet home with her favorite daycare teacher Amber, who spoiled her all night. After conferences, which went well, we dropped Mazy off at a friend's house for a sleepover. He was super excited. Then we took Bo out for Mexican -- just us and Bo! Now that's something that doesn't happen. Good ol' Bo, he is a dear boy with such a fun sense of humor. Lately he's been writing his own songs -- and they're hilarious and full of good rhymes!  I think that's pretty impressive to be able to rhyme and sing on the fly!

After supper, we drove south to Norwalk to pick up Violet. And then Shawn and Bo needed a treat so they got some ice cream, which made Miss Vi very unhappy. We got her a chocolate chip cookie and she chucked it across the car.

We came home to our weekly order of Prudent Produce -- kale, big heirloom tomatoes, pears, kiwi, apples, and a bunch of other things. Due to last week's events, we didn't do a very good job of cooking vegetables this week. So we need to make up for it this weekend!

And what post this week would be complete without a little garagapocalypse update. We have an old friend from Panora coming tomorrow or Saturday to give us a bid for demolition. The insurance company will remove the cars, but before they'll move the minivan, they want the garage demolished. So Saturday we'll get everything out of Shawn's car and get it ready for it's final ride down the highway. Poor ol' Oldsmobile -- 22 years young and still going like a champ. I know he had another couple years in him!

We're still waiting to hear what the insurance offers will be for our vehicles. I don't hold out much hope... That's the risk you take when you drive old cars.

We do have an offer for the garage, demolition and siding on the house. Once it warms up to at least 20 degrees or so.... we can begin sifting through the ashes to catalog items. Ugh, we're kind of dreading that process. But the sooner we do it, the sooner we can replace it!

I've heard from lots of friends this week, and that's been awesome. My brothers are helping me line up contractors for all the work, and that's a huge help. There's just a lot of details and stuff to do... Hopefully we'll hear about the car offers tomorrow so we can start minivan and car shopping this weekend. We're just hoping that the combined totals of both will be enough to buy an old but good condition car for Shawn. One new car payment is enough for us.

I think that's about it. Stay warm and enjoy your Friday!
