Holiday Baking on the Farm

I love spending quiet afternoons on the farm. There's nothing like being back "home" to celebrate and enjoy the holidays.

Sunday was cookie day. I wanted the boys to make sugar cookies and have some time with my grandparents. We arrived at noon for a chili lunch and then the baking began.

Bo was the first one up --

He was really into it. He helped spread out flour, rolled out the dough and then decorated his cookies with sugar and sprinkles. After two trays of Christmas shapes and dinosaurs, he began to make his own cookie designs. See below. He said the big lump on the right was a "volcano."

Next up was Mazy. I helped him roll out his cookies. We got into a small flour war, but otherwise it went well.
And finally. It was time to sample our hard work! Bo ate the heads off a couple dinosaurs and left their bodies on the table. When Grandma Katy asked him if he was going to give some of his cookies to Santa, he kind of glared at her and was quiet for awhile. Finally he said, "No."

We put Bo down for a nap after his cookies. Said goodbye to Grandpa Pud and Grandma Maxine. Then hung out for awhile and ordered pizza for supper. It had stopped snowing by the time we packed up and headed for Des Moines. The boys looked for Christmas lights all the way home.

Those are quite possibly the best days of all -- family and simple fun. I hope you all have a quiet day with grandparents, family or friends to bake cookies and enjoy each other's company.

Tomorrow night we're taking the boys to the mall to see Santa and to ride the Christmas train. Then I'll take Bo shopping to let him choose a gift for Mazy and Shawn. Tomorrow at 1 is Mazy's holiday concert at his school. Shawn and I will both get to attend. I'm looking forward to it!
