Now I Remember Why I Buy, Not Sew, My Clothing

Here's a recipe for failure:

-- one difficult pattern book
-- thick corduroy fabric
-- a woman who has not sewn clothing for 15+ years
-- two young boys cooped up in a house for the weekend

Soooooo, my niece's corduroy jumper. Before I get too far into this story, I just want you to know that it is pretty much finished. Just the buttons remain. And it is cute, cute, cute. It may be a little big for her this year, but I am confident she will be wearing it with cute little leggings and a sweater next fall and winter.

Making that little jumper -- I haven't even started the doll version of it yet -- was anything but easy.... My clothes sewing skills were as rusty as the Tin Man's jaw. I couldn't figure out the pattern instructions. Thank god my mother in law knows what she's doing! Belinda saved the day with this gift. Plus, she and Dwayne put up with two very annoying grandsons for much of our visit at their house. I don't know what it is about that house, but it brings out the devils in my children. Well, the devil in Bo and the whiner in Mazy. Good grief, I'd sew a while and then referee a fight, then I'd iron a seam and then be needed to "find something fun" for them to do.

The rest of Theron's gift will be finished at night, after the boys are in bed. I don't care if I can't figure it out. I'll wing it and do my best. Theron, my apologies in advance.

Well, the stove timer is going off. Better go get the chicken out. Winter is here! Bundle up and stay warm this week. We all enjoyed naps this afternoon snuggled beneath piles of blankets and quilts. There are some perks to these gray days!

  1. she's going to love love love it! It will look great with her leggings I'm sure. And if you made it, even it were a paper bag she'd be in love with it!
