First Western Iowa job call!

Well, surprise, surprise. Send out a resume and you'll get a phone call! Just for the heck of it, I applied for that Western Iowa newspaper reporter job. This morning at 8:30 I had a call on my cell phone from the editor! He wants to set up an interview. The publisher is Mid-America Papers and they cover a bunch of communities in that area.

The job is in Calhoun County -- which is north of Carroll and Greene Counties and not too far from where I want to land. I don't know much about that area. He mentioned Rockwell City. I looked up Rockwell City and it bills itself as "The Golden Buckle on the Corn Belt." Hhmm. I don't know what to think of that.

Unfortunately, i's a newspaper job. Which means it would be fun and exciting, but terrible, terrible pay. I started in newspapers and miss it, but I left because it wasn't enough to live on. And that was before two kids and some expensive new hobbies of mine... But that's OK. I just applied yesterday and got a call within 24 hours. I like to be wanted! And it gives me hope for other jobs.

I'm going to call the editor again tomorrow and ask a few questions and nicely ask about a salary range. That will be the main factor.

Also, on an unrelated note, I was carrying Bo up the stairs yesterday and thinking, "Jeez kid, you are heavy!" He weighs 31 pounds, and carrying him upstairs is a challenge, especially when he's kicking and screaming and trying to pull the antique quilt off the wall. And then I thought, imagine what it would be like if I lost the equivalent of Bo in weight. That would be something! So that's another goal on my list.

And if I put it in my blog, then I have to do it. So there it is. I worked out during my lunch break today. Keep me honest, people. I want to lose one Bo's worth of fat this summer! And I also want to lose the flab on my arms. Because I hate arm flab.

  1. That's great that you got a call regarding your application. Plus, losing a Bo this summer - you are so inspiring! The pictures of the boys were so cute - they're changing so much. Especially Bo, he's losing his little baby look. Keep up the good work! Don't know anything about Calhoun City.

  2. Whoops...Calhoun County - Rockwell City. I know someone from there in our past...maybe the Lundbergs?
