Halloween Marathon Begins Tonight

Hold on to your devil horns and witches hats -- the next few days are going to get crazy!

Tonight we're having ghost-shaped pizzas for supper, followed by pumpkin carving in the living room while we watch The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

Tomorrow night is the annual Trick or Treat at The Mansion (see today's photo). The Mansion is where I work. It's not just a madeup name, we actually work in the Butler Mansion -- one of the finest examples of residential post-modern construction in the country. It was built during the Great Depression by Earl Butler -- a tycoon of some sort. The original house was seven stories with 28 rooms and 10 bathrooms. It's been renovated and expanded since then, but it's still a very cool building with many of the original fixtures and things. Anyway, I digress. Each year, Integer creates an amazing haunted house for employees and their children. Every department spends several hours decorating and coming up with crafts and activities, and then you bring the kids in at 6 to walk all through the building collecting candy, crafts and probably a few nightmares (we usually have a few disemboweled people roaming around the account service department).

Oh, tomorrow is also our 10th anniversary! Hooray for me and Shawn!

Friday night we are taking the boys to Nevada for two reasons. 1. It's trick-or-treat in Nevada's Downtown area. 2. His parents are going to babysit while we go to Ames for an Indian dinner to celebrate our anniversary!

Friday is also my brother Troy's birthday. Happy b-day, Troy!

Saturday night is finally the big show: beggar's night in Des Moines. I think we might go to Ankeny this year and go trick-or-treating with Doug, Jean and Marla. No definite plans yet, but it's likely what we'll do.

Sunday, we will all collapse in exhaustion. Actually, Sunday afternoon during Bo's nap, Mazy and I are going to Dia De Los Muertes at the Des Moines Art Center. They have all kinds of Day of the Dead activities for people. It should be fun!

And that's the plan. We'll see if it all happens or if we or the boys can't make it through all the excitement. Wish us luck!
